Haakanson v. State
Alaska Court of Appeals
760 P.2d 1030 (1988)
Facts
Arthur Haakanson (defendant) was charged with sexually abusing three children. Bags of candy were found in Haakanson’s home. At the trial, the state (plaintiff) sought to introduce evidence of a child-sexual-abuser profile. The profile contained characteristics common to child sexual abusers. These characteristics involved innocent conduct, such as giving candy to children. The trial-court judge admitted evidence of the profile. Subsequently, the jury convicted Haakanson. Haakanson appealed.
