Haffer v. Temple University
United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
115 F.R.D. 506 (1987)

- Written by Mary Phelan D'Isa, JD
Facts
Class-representative Haffer (plaintiff) filed a sex-discrimination case against Temple University (Temple) (defendant) on behalf of all female students at Temple who participated in intercollegiate sports or who had been deterred from participating because of sex discrimination. After the class was certified and class counsel began scheduling meetings with class members, Temple issued communications entitled “Loyalty” that were designed to discourage class members from meeting with class counsel. Haffer requested a corrective notice be sent to all class members and that Temple and defense counsel be prohibited from further improper communications with the class members.
