Facts
William Harden (plaintiff) was a mate on the Enterprize during a voyage from Portland, Maine, to the Caribbean. Harden sued Joshua Gordon (defendant), the master of the Enterprize, for unpaid wages and for expenses that Harden incurred after falling ill in a foreign port during the voyage. The main issue before the court was the validity of Harden’s claim for repayment of those expenses arising from his illness.
