In re A.C.
Vermont Supreme Court
134 Vt. 284, 357 A.2d 536 (1976)
- Written by Meredith Hamilton Alley, JD
Facts
A.C. (defendant) was found to be an unmanageable child because of her truancy. The court held a dispositional hearing to determine A.C.’s placement. At the hearing, the court refused to hear A.C.’s counsel’s closing arguments. The court ordered A.C.’s custody to be transferred to the commissioner of the state juvenile facility and recommended her placement in the state juvenile-detention facility. A.C. appealed, arguing that the court violated her Sixth Amendment right to counsel.
