Facts
Juveniles Edwin R., Edwin M., William S., Anthony H., and Victor H. (the juveniles) (defendants) were charged by the state (plaintiff) with an act that would be considered homicide if they were adults. Pursuant to state law, the juveniles were charged in family court. The juveniles served several state actors with interrogatories, requests for production of written documents, and notices of depositions. The question arose as to whether a juvenile in family court could serve the state with discovery.
