Facts
Larry Little (plaintiff) defended himself at trial on charges of carrying a concealed weapon. During Little’s summation, he stated that the court was biased and that he was a political prisoner. Little then called the judge a profanity. The court found Little in contempt and sentenced him to 30 days in jail. Little sought habeas corpus relief, which was denied. Little then appealed to the United States Supreme Court, which granted cert.
