Facts
The International Hotels Corp. (IHC) (plaintiff) operated a government-licensed gambling casino in Puerto Rico. IHC sued Golden (defendant) in a New York state court to collect a gambling debt Golden incurred in Puerto Rico, where the debt was legal and enforceable. The debt was not enforceable under New York law. The New York appellate court refused to honor the foreign debt and dismissed IHC’s complaint. IHC appealed.
