Jones v. Review Board of the Indiana Employment Security Division
Indiana Court of Appeals
399 N.E.2d 844 (1980)
- Written by Jenny Perry, JD
Facts
When Tenner Jones (plaintiff) accepted a position as a cook for Marian Hill, she informed her supervisor that she was available to work only from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. because of family responsibilities. After approximately three months on the job, Jones was told that she would have to start working until 6:00 p.m. Jones protested but was told that if she did not work the new schedule, her employer would hire someone who would. Jones agreed to accept the new schedule, but the next day she recanted and told her supervisor that she could not work the extra hours because she had four children to care for. Jones worked until a replacement for her position was found. Jones’s application for unemployment-compensation benefits was denied, and the Review Board of the Indiana Employment Security Division (defendant) affirmed, finding that Jones voluntarily left her employment without good cause. Jones appealed.
