Facts
Mrs. Joyner (plaintiff) petitioned for divorce against her husband, Mr. Joyner (defendant) on various grounds, including that he struck her with a horsewhip on one occasion and with a switch on another, leaving several bruises on her person. The trial court ordered Mr. Joyner to pay alimony pending trial, and he appealed.
