Lantz by Lantz v. Ambach
United States District Court for the Southern District of New York
620 F.Supp. 663 (1985)
- Written by Tammy Boggs, JD
Facts
Sixteen-year-old Jacqueline Lantz (plaintiff) was precluded from trying out for her high school all-boys junior-varsity football team due to a New York regulation that prevented mixed-gender competition in basketball, boxing, football, ice hockey, rugby, and wrestling. There was no girls’ football team. Lantz filed suit against certain school officials (defendants), claiming that the regulation violated her right to equal protection.
