Facts
Mark Lewis and Dennis Winslow and other same-sex couples (plaintiffs) sued state officials (defendants) of New Jersey (the state), alleging that the state law that banned same-sex marriage violated the equal-protection clauses of the state constitution. The trial court granted summary judgment to the state. The court of appeals affirmed. Lewis appealed.
