Louis Vuitton Malletier, S.A. v. My Other Bag, Inc.
United States District Court for the Southern District of New York
674 F. App'x 16, 156 F. Supp. 3d 425 (2016)
- Written by Sean Carroll, JD
Facts
My Other Bag, Inc. (MOB) (defendant) manufactured handbags that on one side stated “My Other Bag…” and on the other side contained graphics designed to evoke the famous “LV” mark belonging to Louis Vuitton Malletier, S.A. (plaintiff). MOB’s bags were a play on the classic “My other car is a [luxury car]” bumper stickers. MOB’s design used the letters “MOB” instead of “LV.” MOB branded its bag as utilitarian and able to get dirty, for use at the grocery store or the gym. Louis Vuitton sued MOB for trademark dilution. MOB moved for summary judgment.
