Valerie Trierweiler (plaintiff) was the partner of French President Francois Hollande. Trierweiler brought suit against VSD (defendant) for violation of her right to privacy after VSD published an article featuring photographs of Trierweiler and Hollande in bathing suits taken while the couple was on vacation at Fort Bregancon, a private presidential retreat off the southern coast of France, without their consent.
