Manufacturas International, LTDA v. Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co.
United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York
792 F. Supp. 180 (1992)

- Written by Sean Carroll, JD
Facts
The federal government issued an order seizing electronic fund transfers going from a bank in Europe to a bank in South America via intermediary banks in New York (the banks) (defendants). The seizure occurred when the funds reached the banks in New York, before the transfers were complete. The government alleged that the funds were products of illegal-drug trafficking. Manufacturas International, LTDA, and others (plaintiffs) sued the banks under state and federal law, seeking to recover the seized funds. The banks filed a motion for summary judgment.
