United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
860 F.2d 551 (1988)
- Written by Megan Petersen, JD
Facts
National Petrochemical Co. of Iran (National) (plaintiff), a corporation wholly owned by the Iranian government, brought suit in a United States federal court against M/T Stolt Sheaf (Stolt) (defendant). The district court dismissed the case on the ground that the United States had never before formally recognized the government of Iran, and that an entity wholly owned by an unrecognized foreign government is not entitled to bring suit in a United States court.
