Facts
On July 28, 2015, the National Football League (NFL) (defendant) issued an arbitration award in the Southern District of New York, imposing a four-game suspension on Tom Brady for his alleged involvement in dishonestly deflating footballs used in games. On that same day, the NFL’s exclusive bargaining representative brought an action against the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) (plaintiff) in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, seeking to confirm the arbitration award. Shortly thereafter, on July 29, the NFLPA filed a converse action in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, seeking to vacate the arbitration award.
