Facts
In 1973, Rosemary Pancotto (plaintiff) went to Mozambique with her husband and sons for a hunting safari led by Sociedade de Safaris de Mocambique, S.A.R.L. (Safrique) (defendant). While on the safari, Pancotto suffered an injury when a Safrique employee ran into her with a swamp buggy. Pancotto filed a lawsuit under federal diversity jurisdiction in the district court in Illinois seeking damages. Safrique filed a motion asking the court to apply the law of Mozambique to the substantive issues in the lawsuit.
