Facts
Anthony Boyce (defendant) was in prison for committing murder when he mailed a series of letters that were intercepted and opened by prison officials. The letters formed the basis for an indictment alleging solicitation of murder and attempted solicitation of murder. Only the attempted-solicitation-of-murder charge proceeded to trial. Boyce was found guilty and appealed.
