People v. Maffett
Michigan Supreme Court
633 N.W.2d 339 (2001)
- Written by Craig Conway, LLM
Facts
Todd Maffett (defendant) pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to deliver. Prior to entering his plea, Maffett moved to dismiss the charge on the grounds of entrapment. The trial court held a hearing, concluded that no entrapment occurred, and denied Maffett’s motion to dismiss. Maffett appealed, but the appellate court denied Maffett's application for leave to appeal. Maffett appealed to the Michigan Supreme Court. The court initially granted Maffett leave to appeal, but after briefing and oral argument, the court vacated its order and denied Maffett the opportunity to appeal the trial court's decision.
