People v. Orndorff
California Court of Appeal, Second District
67 Cal.Rptr. 824 (1968)
- Written by Craig Conway, LLM
Facts
Charles Orndorff (defendant) and another individual ran a scheme known as the “Jamaica Switch” where a victim goes into a bank, withdraws money and delivers it to the thief who surreptitiously switches the real money for fake money and leaves before the victim realizes. Orndorff and his associate ran the scheme on Juniper Griffis. However, Orndorff withdrew from the endeavor when Griffis walked toward the bank to make the withdrawal. When Griffis returned, Orndorff and the other individual were gone. Orndorff was charged with and convicted of attempted grand theft. Orndorff appealed.
