- Written by Sara Rhee, JD
Facts
Douglas Scott (defendant) began communicating online with Richard White, an undercover detective. Believing White to be a 12-year-old boy named Ricky, Scott engaged in sexually suggestive conversations with White and arranged to meet him at a Denny’s restaurant. At the agreed-upon time, Scott arrived at the restaurant and approached a detective who had been dressed to match a description of Ricky. Scott was arrested and charged with attempted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. The Circuit Court of Lake County found Scott guilty. Scott appealed.
