People v. Tai
New York Supreme Court
547 N.Y.S.2d 989 (1989)

Facts
Ryan Tai (defendant) was indicted for selling drugs. The trial court permitted the prosecution (plaintiff) to introduce testimony about hearsay statements made by Tai’s alleged coconspirator, Andrew Sun. Sun did not plan to testify at Tai’s trial. Tai sought to impeach Sun’s character for truthfulness by calling character witnesses to testify to Sun’s character for untruthfulness.
