Ragho Prasad v. The Queen
Judicial Committee of the Privy Council
[1981] 1 WLR 469 (1980)
- Written by Elliot Stern, JD
Facts
Ragho Prasad (defendant) was found guilty of murdering his father in a trial held by the Fiji Supreme Court. Prasad appealed the conviction to the Fiji Court of Appeals, arguing that the judge in the case had erred in his summation to the assessors, who had then offered their opinion on the proper verdict to the judge. Prasad then appealed the case to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, which serves as the final court of appeal for a number of countries from the British Commonwealth, including Fiji.
