Facts
Anthony Brown and others (collectively, the individuals) (defendants) were convicted of violating §§ 20 and 47 of the Offenses against the Person Act of 1861 (the offenses act). The individuals had, while intoxicated, engaged in consensual sex involving violence. The individuals appealed the convictions on the ground that consent constituted a defense. The Court of Appeal dismissed the individuals’ appeal. The matter was appealed to the House of Lords.
