Facts
Reid (plaintiff) sued San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad (Railroad) (defendant) alleging that the Railroad negligently let the fencing along its railroad tracks fall into disrepair, allowing one of Reid’s cows to wander onto the track where it was struck and killed by a train. The verdict was for Reid, and the Railroad appealed.
