Robinson v. State
Texas Court of Criminal Appeals
707 S.W.2d 47 (1986)
- Written by Deanna Curl, JD
Facts
On March 7, 1980, 16-year-old Robinson (defendant) was placed in a juvenile detention center on allegations of aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated rape. Robinson was certified and transferred for criminal prosecution as an adult by the juvenile court on June 17, 1980. The district court indicted Robinson on charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping on August 27, 1980. The state (plaintiff) first indicated that they were ready for trial on October 20, 1980. On October 21, 1980, the district court denied a motion Robinson made to set aside the indictments for failure to grant a speedy trial. Following his conviction by a jury for aggravated robbery, Robinson appealed and argued that his right to a speedy trial under state law was violated.
