Facts
Ryan M. (plaintiff) prevailed over the Board of Education of the City of Chicago, District 299 (the board) (defendant) in an administrative hearing for violations of his rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Ryan then filed suit against the board in federal district court for recovering of attorneys’ fees incurred in the administrative proceedings, as allowed under the statute. Ryan requested approximately $95,000 in attorneys’ fees and filed a motion for summary judgment. The board also filed for summary judgment, objecting to the reasonableness of many aspects of the requested fees and claiming that only approximately $53,500 of the requested fee was appropriate.
