Seyler v. Steuben Motors, Inc.
United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit
462 F.2d 181 (1972)
- Written by Heather Whittemore, JD
Facts
Gary T. Seyler and Deborah A. Seyler (plaintiffs) were citizens of Pennsylvania. The Seylers sued Steuben Motors, Inc., and Volkswagen America, Inc. (defendants) in federal district court for violating state law. The Seylers asserted that the court had diversity jurisdiction over the action. Steuben Motors’ principal place of business was in York, Pennsylvania, making it a citizen of Pennsylvania. The district court dismissed the case for lack of jurisdiction because diversity of citizenship did not exist between the Seylers and Steuben Motors. The Seylers appealed.
