Sheridan v. Sheridan
New Jersey Superior Court, Chancery Division
247 N.J. Super. 552, 589 A.2d 1067 (1990)

- Written by Alex Ruskell, JD
Facts
Suzanne Sheridan (plaintiff) divorced her husband, Charles (defendant). During divorce proceedings, Sheridan asked for an equitable distribution of their marital property. Sheridan testified that Charles, an oil-delivery truck driver, obtained those assets by skimming from large oil deliveries and selling the excess oil to third parties. The cash was hidden in shoe and dog-biscuit boxes, and no taxes were ever paid on any of it. Between 1983 and 1987, the family spent $325,000 while Sheridan was a homemaker and Charles’s declared income was less than $20,000.
