Facts
Employees of Standard Oil and Pasodex (defendants) helped a third oil company steal oil from Standard Oil and move it through Pasodex pipelines. The third oil company paid the Standard Oil and Pasodex employees for assisting in the scheme. The United States (plaintiff) charged Standard Oil and Pasodex with violating the federal statute that prohibits transporting contraband oil in interstate commerce. Standard Oil and Pasodex were found guilty and appealed their convictions.
