State v. Dykes
South Carolina Supreme Court
403 S.C. 499, 744 S.E.2d 505 (2013)
- Written by Liz Nakamura, JD
Facts
Jennifer Dykes (plaintiff) pleaded guilty to perpetrating a lewd act on a minor. When Dykes was released from prison and placed on parole, she was notified that any parole violation would result in mandatory lifetime satellite monitoring. Dykes violated her parole and was placed on mandatory satellite monitoring. Dykes appealed, arguing that the South Carolina law that mandated lifetime satellite monitoring without judicial review was unconstitutional because it violated her right to due process.
