State v. Sauter
Arizona Supreme Court
585 P.2d 242 (1978)
- Written by Craig Conway, LLM
Facts
Richard Robert Sauter (defendant), while intoxicated and arguing with Matt Charles Lines, stabbed Lines repeatedly. Lines was taken to an emergency room at a nearby hospital where the attending surgeon repaired multiple lacerations and stab wounds to Lines’ abdominal area. However, the surgeon failed to repair a one-inch cut. Consequently, Lines lost a substantial amount of blood and died. Sauter was charged with, and convicted of, manslaughter. Sauter appealed.
