State v. Taylor
Louisiana Supreme Court
669 So. 2d 364 (1996)
- Written by Abby Roughton, JD
Facts
On March 27, 1991, Feltus Taylor (defendant) shot Donna Ponsano during a robbery at a restaurant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ponsano ultimately died from her injuries, and the State of Louisiana (plaintiff) charged Taylor with first-degree murder. Taylor admitted his guilt at trial, and the jury found him guilty and recommended a death sentence. Taylor appealed to the Louisiana Supreme Court, asserting 339 assignments of error that allegedly occurred during the guilt and sentencing phases of his trial. Many of the alleged errors were not objected to during the trial.
