Facts
In a case involving multiple plaintiffs and multiple defendants, Strawbridge (plaintiff) and all other plaintiffs were citizens of Massachusetts. All defendants, except Curtiss (defendant), were also citizens of Massachusetts. Curtiss was a citizen of Vermont. Strawbridge sued Curtiss and all other defendants in federal court alleging subject matter jurisdiction based on diversity of citizenship. The district court dismissed the case for lack of jurisdiction.
