Taylor v. Kurapati
Michigan Court of Appeals
236 Mich. App. 315, 600 N.W.2d 670 (1999)

- Written by Alex Ruskell, JD
Facts
During Brandy Taylor’s (plaintiff) pregnancy, Dr. Surender Kurapati (defendant) interpreted an ultrasound test as showing no visible fetus abnormalities. However, the baby was born with severe anatomical deformities. Taylor sued Kurapati for wrongful birth, alleging that Kurapati’s failure to reveal the fetus’s abnormalities deprived Taylor of the right to make a reproductive decision regarding the pregnancy. The trial court granted Kurapati’s motion for summary judgment based on statute-of-limitations grounds. Taylor appealed.
