Facts
Two steamboats crashed in the Mississippi River. One (plaintiff) filed suit in Iowa state court under an Iowa statute, and the court ruled in its favor. The other (defendant) appealed to the United States Supreme Court, arguing that the Iowa state court had no jurisdiction over admiralty claims.
