The King v. Lynn
England Court of King’s Bench
100 Eng. Rep. 394 (1788)

- Written by Kelli Lanski, JD
Facts
Lynn (defendant) was indicted and convicted for a criminal offense after he entered a graveyard, dug up a coffin, and stole the body for the purpose of dissecting it. Lynn protested that his conduct was not criminal because the only English criminal law that addressed stealing dead bodies prohibited such conduct only by individuals who wanted to use the body for witchcraft.
