The William Leishear
United States District Court for the District of Maryland
21 F.2d 862, 1927 AMC 1770 (1927)
- Written by Carolyn Strutton, JD
Facts
The William Leishear (defendant) was sold under admiralty law after a number of claimants (plaintiffs) holding liens attached to the vessel brought actions against it. These liens were for unpaid seamen’s wages, salvage, supplies and repairs, wharfage, transportation of sails, and services of a watchman. The proceeds of the sale of the vessel were grossly insufficient to pay all of the claims. The court was required to determine which claimants would be paid in what order from the proceeds.
