Facts
Ultramercial, Inc. (plaintiff) held a patent on a method for distributing media products over the Internet in exchange for viewing advertisements. Ultramercial brought an infringement action against Hulu, LLC (defendant) in federal district court. The court held that the patent was invalid for failure to claim statutorily eligible subject matter. Ultramercial appealed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
