United States v. Adams
United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida
845 F. Supp. 1531 (1994)

- Written by Rich Walter, JD
Facts
Kenneth and Judith Adams (defendants) were standing outside their recreational motor vehicle when Florida police arrived and arrested the Adamses on outstanding warrants. The vehicle was fully equipped and clearly being used for residential purposes, furnished with the Adamses’ personal effects, connected to and powered by an electric generator, and parked in an off-road rural area. Officers searched the vehicle and inventoried its contents. This inventory indicated that the Adamses kept many of their possessions in a storage warehouse. Based on this information, officers obtained a warrant to search the warehouse. The warehouse search turned up evidence that led to the Adamses’ prosecution on federal charges. The Adamses moved to suppress that evidence.
