United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
85 F. 271 (1898)
- Written by Nicholas Decoster, JD
Facts
Addyston Pipe & Steel Company (Addyston Pipe) (defendant) was a manufacturer of cast-iron pipe. Addyston Pipe reached an agreement with five other pipe manufacturers (defendants) to divide up competition throughout the United States and fix prices within those territories in order to exclude new competitors. The United States (plaintiff) brought a complaint against Addyston Pipe and the other manufacturers, alleging that the defendants had engaged in an unlawful cartel in violation of federal antitrust law. The district court held in favor of Addyston Pipe, and the government appealed.
