Facts
Boubacar Bah (defendant) was charged with operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business. At his trial before the district court, Bah called a character witness. The witness, Amadou Diallo, testified about Bah’s truthful character. The government (plaintiff) sought to cross-examine Diallo about a letter in which Bah’s former customer accused Bah of fraud. The judge permitted the government to cross-examine Diallo about the letter. Subsequently, the jury convicted Bah. Bah appealed.
