United States v. C.R.
United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York
792 F. Supp. 2d 343 (2011)
- Written by Liz Nakamura, JD
Facts
Cory Reingold (defendant) collected and distributed child pornography over the internet. Reingold started viewing child pornography when he was 15 years old. Reingold downloaded and distributed his child pornography through a peer-to-peer file sharing website called Gigatribe. When Reingold was 19 years old, an FBI agent created a Gigatribe profile, added Reingold as a friend on Gigatribe, and then viewed and downloaded images and videos from Reingold’s child-pornography collection. Reingold’s circle of distribution was approximately 20 people. Reingold did not engage in, or attempt to engage in, any offline physical contact with minors. The images in Reingold’s collection featured exclusively older children and did not feature scenes of bondage, sadism, or violence. Reingold was charged with, and pleaded guilty to, distribution of child pornography. The relevant statutory minimum sentence was five years in prison and subsequent registration as a sex offender for a minimum of 15 years, subject to the application of mitigating factors.
