Facts
Edward Bliss Foote (defendant) was charged with violating a federal statute that made it illegal to send obscene material through the mail. The grand jury’s indictment charged Foote with depositing in the mail a notice containing information on how to obtain an article designed for the prevention of conception. Foote moved to quash the indictment on the ground that it failed to give a definite description of the pamphlet Foote was alleged to have mailed.
