United States v. Matusiewicz

United States District Court for the District of Delaware
155 F. Supp. 3d 482 (2015)

Facts

Christine Belford was killed by her father-in-law, Thomas Matusiewicz. In connection with the killing, David Matusiewicz, Belford’s ex-husband; Lenore Matusiewicz, mother of David and wife of Thomas; and Amy Gonzalez, David’s sister (the family members) (defendants), were tried for interstate stalking and cyberstalking of Belford, as well as conspiracy. The family members sought to prove that Belford was an unfit mother who had sexually abused her oldest daughter several years before the case. The family members submitted to polygraph testing to support their claims. The prosecution challenged the validity of the polygraph results. The family members then sought to undergo additional polygraph testing to verify the accuracy of the original results. The family members did not request a Daubert hearing.
