United States v. McMillon
United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit
14 F.3d 948 (1994)
- Written by Kyli Cotten, JD
Facts
Julia McMillon (defendant) was charged with conspiracy in relation to a crack-cocaine-distribution ring. At trial, the prosecution (plaintiff) called Jacques Beckwith to testify against McMillon, identifying McMillon as the leader of the ring. On cross, the defense counsel attempted to obtain testimony that Beckwith manipulated addicts into exchanging sexual favors for access to drugs. The court sustained the prosecution’s objection to this line of questioning, and McMillon was convicted. On appeal, McMillon argued that Beckwith’s manipulation for sexual favors was probative of his truthfulness, and thus, should have been admitted.
