United States v. Rybicki
United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
354 F.3d 124 (2003)
- Written by Sean Carroll, JD
Facts
Thomas Rybicki and Fredric Grae (defendants) were attorneys who bribed insurance claims adjusters to expedite the settlements of the defendants’ clients’ claims. The defendants covered up the payments and the adjusters did not tell their employers about the bribes. The defendants were found guilty of mail fraud and wire fraud in that they schemed to deprive the insurance companies of their “intangible right of the honest services of their employees.” The defendants appealed.
