Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)
Definition
A federal environmental law passed in 1980 that imposes wide-ranging liability on owners and operators of sites that are contaminated with hazardous materials. CERCLA is commonly referred to as Superfund.
