Model Rule of Professional Conduct 7.2

Model Rule of Professional Conduct 7.2

Definition

The ethical rule that governs communications concerning a lawyer’s services. The rule permits lawyers to communicate information regarding their services through any media. Lawyers are prohibited from compensating anyone for recommending their services but may pay the reasonable costs of advertisements and the usual costs of a legal service plan or not-for-profit or qualified lawyer-referral service. The rule prohibits lawyers from stating or implying that a lawyer is certified as a specialist in a particular field of law unless the lawyer has been certified as a specialist by an organization approved by the state or accredited by the American Bar Association.
