Barrow v. Barrow
Louisiana Court of Appeal
669 So. 2d 622 (1996)
- Written by Tammy Boggs, JD
Facts
In 1987, Dr. Emile Barrow (plaintiff) and Jennifer Barrow (defendant) married. The Barrows enjoyed a very high standard of living. In the fall of 1989, Jennifer began a master’s-degree program in nursing, and in December 1992, she obtained her degree. Emile filed for divorce in January 1993. While Jennifer was in school, Emile had earned nearly $2 million. According to his testimony, Emile had not needed or wanted Jennifer to work and had not expected to experience a higher standard of living after Jennifer obtained her degree. The trial court denied Emile’s claim for reimbursement for the community’s contributions to Jennifer’s educational expenses. Emile appealed.
